CONTEST INFORMATION
Date. Saturday, May 11, 2019
Location. Maxey Rifleman’s Gun Club – Paris, TX; From Northwest Loop 286, follow Highway 79 Northwest approximately 2 miles to County Road 32500, turn right and the range will be on right. View District IV 4-H Shooting Sports Match Locations map.
Schedule. Contestants need to check-in with contest officials at least 30 minutes prior to his/her scheduled match time. Members will be assigned to a specific relay once the registration deadline is over. That schedule will be posted on this page and distributed to County Extension Agents prior to the match. Seniors and shotgun shooters will be given first priority on scheduling. Those that are also shooting shotgun on this day must shoot rifle first.

Awards will be distributed after all tabulations are completed (approximately 2 p.m.).
*Times and the number of relays noted are approximate and may change depending on registration numbers or weather/contest conditions. Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your assigned heat time. Check-in priority will be given to individuals shooting in earlier relays.
2019 – District Rifle Contest – Shooting Order
Registration. Each participating member is required to register on 4-H Connect and pay the $10.00 registration fee. Registration will open on March 19 and close at midnight on April 19, 2019. Agents, please ensure all team members have registered before certifying on the county level. When registering, contestants must designate if he/she is entering as an individual or as member of a member of a team. Each member must also complete and submit the waiver and release forms attached to be turned in at check-in. If the member/coach has a shooting order preference, please note that at the time of registering online. Also note if any special arrangements must be made for your team at the time of registering for match scheduling. Example: Only 2 can shoot at a time because the team only has 2 rifles.
Participation. Contestants must be active 4-H members enrolled in a Texas 4-H and Youth Development county program in District IV. Contestants must also be academically eligible (according to UIL rules) to compete on the day of the contest.
Novice competitors are welcome, but all shooters must be actively involved in a county 4-H shooting sports program prior to competing. Shooters must have received instruction/training on safe firearm handling, safety protocols, and general rules of play from a certified 4-H shooting sports coach.
Age. Age divisions are determined by a participant’s grade as of September 1 of the current 4-H year. Age divisions for this contest are:
- Junior grades 3, 4, or 5
- Intermediate grades 6, 7, or 8
- Senior grades 9, 10, 11, or 12
Entries per county. Each county may enter unlimited teams/individuals per age division listed above.
Members per team. Teams consist of 3 or 4 members of the same age. Junior members are allowed to move up to the intermediate age division in order to complete a team, but will compete solely in that age division. Juniors and intermediates are not allowed to move up to the senior age division.
Awards. 1st through 5th place individual and team awards in each age category will be presented. The top 3 placed senior teams and top 3 individuals (no matter if on a team or not) qualify for state.

Shooting Classifications and Options
- Juniors – Prone only: Individuals may choose to shoot prone only. Prone only juniors will shoot two targets for prone, a total of 20 record shots. (Prone juniors may shoot as individuals or on a 3 or 4 member prone team.) 3-P for juniors is not offered this year.
- Intermediates – 3P: Intermediates may shoot 3-position rifle as an individual or as a 3 or 4-member team. One target of prone, standing, and kneeling will be shot, for a total of 30 record shots.
- Seniors 3-P: Seniors may shoot 3-position rifle as an individual or as a 3 or 4 member team. One target of prone, standing, and kneeling will be shot, a total of 30 record shots.
Challenges – Only the shooter will be allowed to review targets and challenge a score. The shooter will have 15 minutes following the completion of scoring of their relay to review and challenge any scores. The shooter must put up a $1 per hole being challenged. If score is upheld, the shooter donates his/her $1 to District IV 4-H shooting sports and will be given a receipt for the donation; if score is corrected, the shooter will get his/her money back. Safety. There will be safety officers on the range. Their instructions must be followed. Spectators must be kept away from shooters, behind the roped off area, and behind the firing line at all times. Parents are asked to help monitor and police this throughout the day.

* Safe and respectful behavior is expected of Shooters, Coaches and Spectators at all times.
* Shooters, coaches, and spectators are required to provide their own eye and ear protection.
* Shooters are expected to wear appropriate clothing for the day. No open-toed shoes will be allowed.
* Disorderly, unsafe or abusive conduct has no place on the Shooting Sports Range and will not be permitted. Individuals who exhibit such conduct may be immediately disqualified and/or dismissed from the grounds. The match director, 4-H Specialist, and/or District Extension Administrator will have final say in all disputes.

Other Notes:
- Only Single Shot – Bolt Action 22 Rifles may be used for the District IV contest.
- Day of contest: Bring 2 copies (keep one and turn in a copy at check-in) of Waiver & Release Form and release form for Maxey Rifleman’s Gun Club, and any changes or team substitutions to the original entry. Contestants will not be allowed to compete if the release forms are not turned in at time of check-in.
- Each team/county must furnish firearm, ammunition, eye protection and ear protection. A shooter will NOT be allowed to shoot without eye and ear protection. Targets (USA/NRA 50) will be furnished and will be issued at registration.
- The range is outdoors and faces east. In the event of bad weather, the match will be rescheduled. In the event of rescheduling, refunds will be issued if the member chooses not to compete on the rescheduled date. If the weather is questionable on the day of the match, you may check back on this page to determine the status of the match.
- The range is located in a rural area, so you may wish to bring cold drinks, sack lunches, snacks, lawn chairs, shade canopies, etc. A food truck has been on site at the adjacent shotgun range and may be available again this year. There is no electricity or running water on site. Portable bathroom facilities will be available on site.
