Contest Information

Date. The horse show will be held on June 18-19, 2019. ATTENTION NEW DATE!!

Tuesday Check-in 9:00 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Wednesday Check-in 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If participants are planning on arriving late on Tuesday, please contact your county extension agent and they will assist in making arrangements for stalls to be unlocked no later than June 15th.

Registration. All entries for the East Region 4-H Horse Show will be made on 4-H Connect. Registration will
open starting on May 10 and close on midnight Friday, May 24, 2019. No late entries on 4-H Connect will be
accepted. For assistance with registration, please refer to the attached “4-H Connect Registration
Checklist” or seek assistance from your County Extension office.

IMPORTANT: An Extension agent’s confirmation will certify that the entry meets all requirements, including
horse ownership and registration, as stated in the Texas 4-H Horse Show Guidelines and in this memo.

  •  In addition to class fees, a Horse Show office fee of $10 will be charged per contestant.
    When registering, complete one registration per individual, even when there are
    multiple horses, or else you will be charged the $10 (non-refundable) fee for each
    separate registration. Step-by-step directions are outlined on page 7 of this memo.
    After completing the information for one horse, you will be given an option to add
    additional horses/classes; select “Save and Add New Entry.”
    • When an entry is accepted, payment is due. Payment for the horse show is due before the event.
    Entries must show as paid on 4-H Connect by noon the Friday before the horse show.
    • Classes may be added at the show at a cost of the class fee plus an additional $35 fee per class.
    • No refunds will be granted.

Entries per county. Any number of qualified entries will be accepted from each county (i.e., no county
quota).

Only horses validated through the appropriate online certification and, subsequently, through the
state 4-H horse office, by May 1st, 2019 are eligible to enter and compete in the district and state 4-H
horse show competition. Note criteria for minimum class sizes.

Participation. Contestants must be active 4-H members enrolled in a Texas 4-H Youth Development county
program in District 4 or District 5. Contestants must also be academically eligible (according to UIL rules) to
compete on the day of the contest.

Exhibitor Age. Eligibility is determined by a participant’s grade as of September 1, 2018. Contestants must
be between the ages of 8 and in the 3rd grade through 12th grade. All ages will compete against one another
in all classes. Age divisions for special awards are as follow:
Junior Grades 3-8
Senior Grades 9-12

Awards.

  • Award to the following class winners:
    Halter, Hunter Flat, Judged Western, Speed, Futurity, Roping, and Stock Horse
    (Possible voucher for a buckle)
  •  Rosette Ribbons to the 2nd – 10th places in all classes
  •  Award to exhibitors of Champion and Reserve Champion Mare
  •  Award to exhibitors of Champion and Reserve Champion Gelding
  •  Award to each Division Champion in the Judged Western Division, Speed Division, Hunter Division,
    Roping Division and Stock Horse Division. Two age divisions (Junior and Senior) will be recognized in
    each division and district. Awards will be determined based on the official class placings. No awards or
    points will be given to disqualified participants.
