Registration.  Each participating member is required to register on 4-H Connect and pay the district $10.00 contest registration fee.  Registration will open March 1, 2016 and close on March 24, 2016.

Participation. Participants must be active 4-H members enrolled in a Texas 4-H and Youth Development county program in District IV.

Age. Age divisions are determined by a participant’s grade as of September 1 of the current 4-H year.  Age divisions for this contest are:

Junior and Intermediate Combined grades 3 to 8
Senior grades 9, 10, 11, 12

Entries per county. Each county may enter as many teams as they choose. The first, second, and third placed team in the senior age division will advance to state.

Members per team. Each team will have at least four and no more than six members.

Contest categories/divisions.  There will be two contest components for district (no interpretation piece required at district for junior/intermediate teams):

  • Parliamentary Procedure Contest
    • Junior/Intermediate Team required procedures: Main Motion, Amendment, Refer to a Committee, and Division
    • Senior Team required procedures: Refer to the Leaders 4 Life State Guidelines
  • Questions and Answers with the Judges
  • Senior Teams Only: Service Learning Interpretation Piece and Service Learning Interview

Awards.  The top five high scoring teams in each age division will be recognized with awards.

Cell phones and talking.  Cell phones or other digital devices (such as PDA’s) will not be allowed in any portion of the contest.  Contestants are encouraged to leave their phones with their parents or check them in to contest officials during registration.  Once the contest orientation has been given, no talking will be allowed, except in contest rooms.  Each infraction of this rule will result in the team losing 5 points from the total team score.
