Registration. Those with teams (only Junior and Senior) who wish to compete for District recognition and State qualification need to register between December 8, 2016 and January 8, 2017 on 4-H Connect ($10/member). The 4-H and FFA Range and Pasture Plant Identification Contest is conducted by the stock show. The contest is held in the same location at 12:30 p.m. on January 21. Fort Worth entries are due to the Fort Worth Stock Show on December 1, 2016. Rules and guidelines are found on the show’s website.
Participation. Contestants must be active 4-H members enrolled in a Texas 4-H and Youth Development county program in District IV. Contestants must also be academically eligible (according to UIL rules) to compete on the day of the contest.
Age. Age divisions are determined by a participant’s age as of September 1 of the current 4-H year. Age divisions for this contest are:
Junior grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8
Senior grades 9, 10, 11, or 12
District IV 4-H will follow the same age groups as Fort Worth for this contest. There will not be any distinction between 4-H juniors and intermediates in competition or awards.
Entries per county. Counties can enter only one junior and one senior team per club, for as many clubs as you have in the county. When registering with the stock show, use a unique 4-H club name for each team.
Members per team. Teams consist of 3 or 4 members of the same age. Members that are 13 or younger are not allowed to move up to the senior age division.
Awards. 1st through 5th place individual and team awards in each age category will be presented. The top 3 placed senior teams and/or individuals will advance to state.
