CONTEST INFORMATION

Date.  May 4, 2019

Location.  Texas A&M Commerce, Student Center, 2nd floor

Tentative Schedule.   Times are subject to change, dependent upon registrations.

Contest Check-in 9:30 a.m.
Orientation 9:45 a.m.
Contest Begins After orientation
Awards Conclusion of contest

Registration.  Each participating member is required to register on 4-H Connect and pay the district $10.00 contest registration fee.  Registration will open on March 12 and close at midnight April 12, 2019.

If the county has multiple team entries, please denote team names on 4-H Connect using this naming structure:

Please no unique team names.  The top 3 placed senior teams will qualify for state.

Participation. Contestants must be active 4-H members enrolled in a Texas 4-H and Youth Development county program in District IV.  Contestants must also be academically eligible (according to UIL rules) to compete on the day of the contest.

Age.There will be two age divisions at District:  Junior/Intermediate and Senior.  Junior and Intermediate aged youth are combined into one age division.  Age divisions are determined by a participant’s grade as of September 1 of the current 4-H year.  Age divisions for this contest are:

Junior/Intermediate grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
Senior grades 9, 10, 11, 12

Entries per county. There is no limit to the number of teams a county may enter.  The first, second and third place senior teams will qualify for Texas 4-H Roundup.

Members per team.   Junior/Intermediate teams may consist of 3 or 4 members of the same age division (for 2019 only).  Juniors and intermediates are not allowed to move up to the senior age division.  Senior teams must have 4 members per team (new rule).

Awards. 1st – 5th place team awards in each age division will be presented at the conclusion of the contest.  New for 2019. Individual awards will be given to first through third place individuals.  To be eligible for individual awards, members must have participated in three or more matches.  (for more than three matches, individual scores will be taken from the top three matches)

Contest Rules.  District IV follows the rules set forth in the Texas 4-H Quiz Bowl Guide (linked below).  For all age divisions, this is a double-elimination tournament.  No cell phone or other electronic devices are allowed in the contest rooms. No scribing, note-taking, score-keeping or recording of questions/answers or individual performance is permitted by coaches or competitors.   Teams found in violation will be disqualified.
